A History of the Ledbetter, Burroughs,
Tussey, and Pitts Families
This is the story of a family from the Tidewater area of Virginia. Pictured at left are Aubrey and Virginia Tussey Ledbetter. Royal Aubrey Ledbetter was a Jr. and the oldest child of Royal Aubrey Ledbetter, Sr. and Francis Celeste Burroughs. Virginia Tussey was the youngest child of William David Tussey and Emma Flaye Pitts Tussey.

Their parents moved to Norfolk when they very young. Aubrey and Virginia grew up, married and had their own family in the Lafayette and Ballentine Boulevard neighborhood of Norfolk. Their two children Gene and Carole grew up with their Grandparents, and most of their aunts, uncles and cousins within walking distance.

The Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay and Hampton Roads were the basis for the area's business and recreation. The major summertime recreation times were at the beach. The beach painting at the upper right is of the Atlantic Ocean.

Links To Grandparent's Family History Home Page

This publishing is organized in an overall home page/area (your current location) and a separate home page/area for each of the four Grandparent's families. This enables relatives to focus on just our common ancestral family[s]. It also enables them to publish their unique families and link to our common family[s] in a collaborative effort.

Pictured at the right is Aubrey and Virginia's early home on Tait Terrace. This is where Gene and Carole grew up. It was walking distance to everything except the beach, which was just a streetcar ride away. Shown in the picture is the toddler version of their first grandson John Burgess of John Burgess Design and son of Carole. He designed and hosted this web site.

Communication

This was published to communicate family history and solicit genealogy information. It aims to be interesting and information rich. The descriptions communicate what is believed to be true, however as the serious genealogist knows, there are few absolutes. The genealogy data behind this publishing is stored in The Master Genealogist (TMG) and includes citations and surety codes (probability of being true). The complete details will be emailed to any requester in GEDCOM format.

The genealogy information published is for generations in which there are no living members. This was done to avoid privacy issues.

No descendent information was published because the initial effort has been to capture the ancestors. Some descendent information is available, and more will be added in time. Due to the potential explosion in data volume this can produce, descendents will normally be limited to the direct family of ancestors. Ideally the linkage to cousins will be through links to other family web sites.

We seek and enjoy collaboration on this never-ending journey to capture and publish our history. If you can add, correct or solicit information please send mail.

Send Email to Carole Ledbetter Burgess daughter of Aubrey and Virginia.
