John Abe Burgess PhotoJohn Abe Burgess was born 8/16/1882 in Ridgeway VA. He helped his father farm, married Florence Bradshaw (1907), and started a family in Ridgeway. He then moved to Ivor and then Chesterfield VA where he farmed. He bought a store and home fuel business in Ettrick VA where he died in 1944.

His father John Henry Burgess and several previous generations lived and farmed in Ridgeway VA on the Smith River. The earliest Burgess trace was to John Burgess Sr. born in Gloucester VA in 1740.

John Abe's Mother was Mary Foster and Grandmothers were a Weaver and a Critz. Other recent ancestral families include Dalton, Hunter, Pace, Penn and Stoval.

The latest English monarch was King Edward III born 1312. The latest French monarch was King Philippe IV born 1268.

Early American Colonist all settled in Virginia. They include John Knowles born 1612 in Henrico (which was probably just a few miles from Yellow House Farm), Gertrude Newsome born 1614 in Williamsburg and John Madison born 1660 at St. Stephens, King And Queen and Great Grandfather of President James Madison.

Soldiers include Abraham PENN born 1743 (Nephew of John Penn a signer of the Declaration of Independence) was a Col. in Continental Army at Yorktown, Capt. Hamon Critz born c 1760 was also at Yorktown, and John Abe's father Capt. John Henry Burgess who surrendered with Lee at Appomattox.
