Lottie Leigh1 PARKER (Nathan, #2); born 7/5/1894 at Pleasant Grove, Northampton, NC; married John Green Gay 12/31/1910 at Wendell, Northampton, NC; Lottie and John met at Church and in the small area of Pleasant Grove where they were both raised. Lottie moved to Wendell after her Mom died in 1907. John visited her there and they eloped because her dad Nathan Parker would not have agreed with marriage. Marriage Register 1839-1969, P-R, White Female. The entry is: Applied for on Dec 31, 1910, married Dec 31, 1910, Lottie L. Parker 18, John G. Gay 22, married in Wendell, by W. E. Anderson, Baptist minister, Witnesses, Page Allen, Allie Knott, U. G. Todd; died 3/18/1930 at Charlottesville, VA, at age 35.

She was Homemaker on 12/31/1910. She and John Green Gay lived on 12/20/1919 at Chester, Chesterfield, VA; In 1919 she and John G. Gay acquired the Yellow House Farm. They moved into this new home Christmas week of 1919.

Generation Two

2. Nathan Anderson2 PARKER (Cornelius, #4); born 12/26/1867 at Richmond, IN; married Sarah John Reese (see #3), daughter of Francis Marion Reese and Mary Lucy Stephenson, 12/23/1894 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Pleasant Grove, Northampton, NC; died 12/28/1954 at Chester, Chesterfield, VA, at age 87.

He was Farmer on 12/23/1894. He and Sarah John Reese appeared on the census of 1900 at Seaboard Township, Northampton, NC; South precinct, E 78, Sheet 5, dwelling 85, Nathan Parker 32, Dec. 1867, m. 5 yrs, Sallie J. Parker 30, Children 1, living 1, Lottie L. Parker 5, July 1894. He and Cornelius Rhodes Parker appeared on the census of 1910 at Seaboard Township, Northampton, NC; ED 88, page 2b, dwelling 16, Cornelius R. Parker 32, married 10 years, farmer, Carrie E. 3. Sarah John2 REESE (Francis, #6); born 10/20/1868 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; married Nathan Anderson Parker (see #2), son of Cornelius Parker and Olivia Maddrey, 12/23/1894 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Pleasant Grove, Northampton, NC; died 9/21/1907 at Pleasant Grove, Northampton, NC, at age 38; Died of consumption.

She and Nathan Anderson Parker appeared on the census of 1900 at Seaboard Township, Northampton, NC; South precinct, E 78, Sheet 5, dwelling 85, Nathan Parker 32, Dec. 1867, m. 5 yrs, Sallie J. Parker 30, Children 1, living 1, Lottie L. Parker 5, July 1894.

Generation Three

4. Cornelius3 PARKER (Britton Paker, #8); born 11/10/1838 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; married Celia Hoggard 3/24/1859 at Northampton, NC; married Olivia Maddrey (see #5), daughter of Anderson James Maddrey and Frances E. J. Taylor, 2/28/1867 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; died 1910 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC.

He began military service on 6/12/1861 at Northampton, NC, Private in Company B, 1st Cavalry Regiment Southern Army. Deserted to Feds at Edenton, NC and took oath at Ft. Monrow 9/23/1864.

6. Francis Marion3 REESE (John REESE, #12); born 12/8/1829 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; married Mary Lucy Stephenson (see #7), daughter of Kinchen Stephenson and Elizabeth L Phillips, 11/8/1866 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; married Sarah Stephenson Hill circa 1882; died 10/15/1905 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC, at age 75.

Reese 16. He began military service on 2/3/1862 at Northampton, NC, Private. Was a farmer and enlisted at age 32. Present and accounted for through 12/1864. Paroled at Greensboro 4/27/1865. He and Elizabeth L Phillips appeared on the census of 1870 at Northampton, NC; Page 701, dwelling 270- Francis M. Reese 40, Mary 31, Lucy 2, Sarah 7/12 (Oct.), Elizabeth Stephenson 56. He left a will on 3/8/1905 at Northampton, NC; Will Book 8, page 174, F. M. Reese, dated March 8, 1905, probated October 30, 1905. 1). Request to be buried in new graveyard in Town of Seaboard recently purchased of J. R. Curtrell near Samaritan Hill. 2). To wife Sarah E. Reese all personal property she owned at the time of marriage plus 2 of hogs, horses, mules, cattle etc. 3). To daughter Sarah Johnie Parker (nee Reese) 2 of hogs, mules, cattle, etc. and household and kitchen furniture brought to my present home after the marriage to my present wife plus $400.00 on deposit at Farmers Bank of Nansmond, Suffolk, Va., 4). To wife, Sarah E. Reese and daughter Sarah Johnie Parker 9 stored bales of cotten. 5). To Aunt Lucy Jane Williams of Southampton County $400. 6) Names J. G. L. Crocker as executor. Signed: F. M. 7. Mary Lucy3 STEPHENSON (Kinchen, #14); born 7/3/1838 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; married Francis Marion Reese (see #6), son of John Wesley REESE and Sarah Charlotte Williams, 11/8/1866 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; died 1/15/1872 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC, at age 33.

8. Britton4 PAKER (John Parker, #16); born circa 1780 at Northampton, NC; married Sarah Smith (see #9), daughter of Joseph Smith, 2/21/1814 at Northampton, NC.

He was also known as Brittian Parker. As of / /1789, he was also known as Britain Parker. He appeared on the census of 1830 at Northampton, NC; Britton Parker; Males 10-15=3, 15-20=1, 50-60=1(Britton), 60-70=1; Females 0-5=1, 5-10=1, 10-15=1, 15-20=1, 30-50= 1 (Sarah=31).

9. Sarah4 SMITH (Joseph, #18); born 1799 at Northampton, NC; married Britton Paker (see #8), son of John Parker and Lucy Tadlock, 2/21/1814 at Northampton, NC.

She was also known as Sarah Parker. As of circa / /1790, she was also known as Sally Smith Parker. As of circa / /1793, she was also known as Sally Smith. She appeared on the census of 1850 at Northampton, NC; Federal listed Sarah, Marium and Cornelius.

10. Anderson James4 MADDREY (William, #19); born 9/12/1812; married Frances E. J. Taylor (see #11) 12/5/1837 at Northampton, NC; died 1888.

The only known child of Anderson James4 Maddrey and Frances E. J. Taylor (see #11) was:

14. Kinchen4 STEPHENSON (William, #23); born 3/1/1810 at Seaboard, Northampton, NC; married Elizabeth L Phillips (see #15), daughter of Drewey Phillips and Creasey Stancill, 9/27/1832; died 12/30/1866 at Northampton, NC, at age 56.

He lived in 1834 at Seabord, Northampton, NC; In 1834, Kinchen's father sold him a tract of land of 220 acres for $682. The exact location of this farm is not known. In deeds recorded in the 1850's, the Seabord and Roanoke Railroad is mentioned in the description and a plat drawing seems to confirm the belief the land was located where the present Town of Seaboard is today. He appeared on the census of 1840 at Northampton, NC; page 39, Kinchen Stephenson, male under 5- 1, male 5 to 10- 1, male 30 to 40- 1, Female under 5- 2, female 20 to 30- 1, 5 slaves.

15. Elizabeth L4 PHILLIPS (Drewey, #25); born 7/31/1813; married Kinchen Stephenson (see #14), son of William Stephenson and Martha Suiter, 9/27/1832; died 5/24/1880 at Northampton, NC, at age 66.

She was also known as Elizabeth L. Stephenson. She also went by the name of Betsy. The public record does show that while Elizabeth was a young child, she inherited a slave, Patience, from her grandmother and her father, Drewey Phillips, was appointed the guardian for her estate by the court in Northampton County. The records seems to show that Patience, the slave, had twins and rather than being hired for rent Betsy's estate had to pay for Patience's medical bills and for the care of her and her twins. In 1833 and after she had married, Kinchen paid her guardian $9.76 in order to balance her guardian account. A family legend is that she was adopted, however no evidence is found in support of this and in fact the guardian account refers to Drewey Phillips as her father circa 1830. She and Kinchen Stephenson appeared on the census of 1850 at Northampton, NC; Page 62, Dwelling 1009, Kitchen Stephenson, 40, Farmer, Real Property $963, Born in NC, Elizabeth Stephenson 37, Augustus Stephenson, 17, Richard Stephenson 15, Mildred Stephenson 14, Mary L. Stephenson 12, Claudius Stephenson 4. She and Francis Marion Reese appeared on the census of 1870 at Northampton, NC; Page 701, dwelling 270- Francis M. Reese 40, Mary 31, Lucy 2, Sarah 7/12 (Oct.), Elizabeth Stephenson 56.

Generation Five

16. John5 PARKER (Isaac PARKER, #27); born 2/21/1754 at Northampton, NC; married Lucy Tadlock (see #17), daughter of Thomas Tadlock and Sarah Sumner, circa 1775; Children: Aaron, Brittian, Lucy Vaughan,Elia Winbourn, Unity Parker, Sally Dolba; died circa 1808 at Lasker, Northampton, NC.

He began military service circa 1775 Served with Col. Nicolas Long's regiment in the Revolutionary War. Was one of minutemen and voluntears. (Vol 1- 6pg -354) Sold guns to revolutionary officers.

The two known children of John5 Parker and Lucy Tadlock (see #17) were as follows:

  • i. Aaron4; born circa 1776; married Mary Martha Edwards circa 1793 at Northampton, NC.

  • 8. ii. Britton.

17. Lucy5 TADLOCK (Thomas, #29); born before 1755; married John Parker (see #16), son of Isaac PARKER and Mrs Susanna PARKER, circa 1775; Children: Aaron, Brittian, Lucy Vaughan,Elia Winbourn, Unity Parker, Sally Dolba; died after 1808 at Northampton, NC.

As of circa / /1785, she was also known as Parker.

18. Joseph5 SMITH; born circa 1770; died circa 1816.

The only known child of Joseph5 Smith and an unknown spouse was:

19. William Jr.5 MADDREY (Nathaniel, #31); born circa 1790; married Sally Monger (see #20) circa 1810; died 1836.

The only known child of William Jr.5 Maddrey and Sally Monger (see #20) was:

20. Sally5 MONGER; born circa 1790; married William Jr. Maddrey (see #19), son of Nathaniel D. Maddrey and Mrs Mary Maddrey, circa 1810; died 1860.

As of circa / /1805, she was also known as Sally Monger Maddrey.

21. Rivers5 REESE (John, #33); born circa 1760 at Southampton, VA; married Piety VICK (see #22), daughter of William VICK and Ann JOYNER, 1/5/1793 at Southampton, VA; died before 6/14/1810.

(Note: Research needed to confirm that John is son of Rivers).

The only known child of Rivers5 REESE and Piety VICK (see #22) was:

22. Piety5 VICK (William, #35); born circa 1772 at Southampton, VA; married Rivers REESE (see #21), son of John REESE and Mary THORPE, 1/5/1793 at Southampton, VA; died 8/21/1831 at Southampton, VA; Probably killed by the Nat Turner Insurection of 8/21 and 8/22 in 1831 along with 57 other whites. This was the worst slave rebellion and one of the catalyst for the Civil War. Quote from source: "Mrs Piety Vick Reese and son William were killed on the Giles Reese plantation about a mile to the east of Mrs Eliz. Turner's in Nat Turner's barn."

As of 1/5/1793, her married name was Piety Vick Reese.

23. William5 STEPHENSON; born circa 1780; married Martha Suiter (see #24) circa 1799; died 1837.

He left a will on 4/15/1837 at Northampton, VA; Will Book 4, page 158-159: Probated September Court 1837; Item 2 I lend unto my wife Martha Stephenson her natural life the following property (to wit) one negro man, Sam one negro woman Elli, one other woman Hannah, one boy Alfred, one small girl Aggy, one small boy Ben, one bay mare, and her choice of one of the balances of my horses, one cow and calf, one binded(?) heifer, and one white yearling, two sows and pigs at the pen toward Henry's, three feather beds and furniture with all my household and kitchen furniture, one jersey wagon and harness, one cart and wheels, one loom and gear, and a years provisions. It is my will and desire at the death of my wife that all the above named property except the above named negroes shall be divided between all my children namely Patrick H. Stephenson, Rebecca Buxton, Margaret Stephenson, Kitchen T. Stephenson and John W. Stephenson to them and their heirs forever; Item 6 I give unto my son Kitchen T. Stephenson one negro man Frank also one negro boy Ben on the death of my wife to him and his heirs forever; Item 9 I do make and appoint my son Kitchen T. Stephenson and John W. Stephenson my whole and sole executors to this my last will and testament. Probated September Court 1837 on oath of Wm. H. Hardin and Arthur T. Long. Kitchen T. Stephenson & John W. Stephenson qualified as executors.

He lived circa 1812 at Isle Of Wight, VA.

(Note: Edward I, nicknamed "Longshanks" due to his great height and stature, was perhaps the most successful of the medieval monarchs. The first twenty years of his reign marked a high point of cooperation between crown and community. In these years, Edward made great strides in reforming government, consolidating territory, and defining foreign policy. He possessed the strength his father lacked and reasserted royal prerogative. Edward fathered many children as well: sixteen by Eleanor of Castille before her death in 1290, and three more by Margaret.

Edward's involvement in Scotland had far reaching effects. After the death of the Scottish King Alexander III, Edward tried to insert himself as the a Scottish ruler. This led to William Wallace incited a rebellion in 1297, defeated the English army at Stirling, and harassed England's northern counties. The next year, Edward defeated Wallace at the Battle of Falkirk but encountered continued resistance until Wallace's capture and execution in 1304. Robert Bruce, the grandson of a claimant to the throne in 1290, instigated another revolt in 1306 and would ultimately defeat the army of Edward II at Bannockburn. Edward's campaigns in Scotland were ruthless and aroused in the Scots a hatred of England that would endure for generations).
